TEA PRODUCTION

Tea is produced commercially in tropical and subtropical regions of the world. Major tea producing countries are India, Sri Lanka, China, Japan, and Taiwan. However, tea-growing regions are widespread and can be found globally. Other countries that grow teas include Thailand, Vietnam, Loas, Indonesia, Argentina, Kenya, Malawi and Turkey. Although all teas come from Camellia Sinensis plants, each develops its own unique flavor and characteristic as a result of the weather, soil and surrounding environment of where it is grown.

Teas of the world are classified in a number of ways. One is by the size and shape of the processed leaf. Another is by the way it is processed.  Like wines, some tea takes its name from the country or district where it is grown. Tea making is considered an art form, often kept secret within families and passed down through generations. Each family employs different techniques to create a unique cup of tea.
